The self-polishing copolymers (SPCs) are based on acrylic copolymers which are easily hydrolysable in seawater. This technique uses both hydrolysis and erosion to control the antifouling activity. Recently, environmentally acceptable and effective antifouling paints have been developed. In this study, we synthesized SPC resins using the silyl-based copolymers composed of the basis of silyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate, and methyl methacrylate. And we modified the silyl-based SPC resins by using other acrylate monomers. The SPC structures of the synthesized polymers were confirmed using FT-IR spectroscopy and 1H-NMR. Also, we investigated basic properties which are NV(Nonvolatile Content), viscosity, and hardness of the developed resins.
