The biofouling is the undesirable accumulation of microorganisms, plants, and animals on underwater structures. To minimize biofouling, we use the antifouling paints on the ship. As the environmental problems, widely used tributyltin compounds(TBT) for antifouling paints have been prohibited worldwide at the end of 2008. The need to develop new environmentally acceptable and effective antifouling agents has been highlighted. In this study, we synthesized SPC resins using the silyl acrylate and analyzed the characteristics of each resin using Taguchi method, one of the experimental design methods. The SPC structures of the synthesized polymers were confirmed using FT-IR spectroscopy. Also, we investigated basic properties which are NV(Nonvolatile Content), viscosity, and hardness and self-polishing ability of the developed resins.
