Biodegradable Polyelectrolyte Multilayer Assembly for Bioapplication |

Polyelectrolyte multilayer films were prepared by layer-by-layer(LbL) process. This process is highly practical to form nano-structured thin films. Due to the nature of the weak polyelectrolytes, the multilayer films comprised of weak polyelectrolytes exhibit the unique property, tuning the film properties by simple changing the pH of the dipping condition. The reactive functional groups which remained after the film deposition allow further chemical reactions such as bio-coupling reaction and selective crosslinking. We applied this technique to synthesize metal nanoparticles. We used the LbL assembly of poly(allylamine hydrochloride)(PAH) with weak polyacids such as poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and hyaluronic acid (HA). And we synthesized silver nano particles using the acid group rich multilayer films. PAA/PAH and HA/PAH films were investigated for their interactions with biomolecules. |
