Synthesis and characterization of furan functionalized polymer and bismaleimide for self-healing materials via Diels-Alder reaction |

Self-healing concepts are divided into reversible and irreversible reaction. In this work, we investigated thermally reversible Diels-Alder reaction. A series of polymers was synthesized by free radical polymerization using furan functionalized methacrylate. Also, we prepared bismaleimide as a cross-linker for thermally reversible Diels-Alder reaction. The chemical structures of polymer and cross-linker were confirmed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra and reversible property of Diels-Alder reaction was confirmed by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR). Then, self-healing performance was studied by various measurements. The results show that reversible self-healing was controlled by heat stimulation. |
