Estimation of Mechanical Properties of Layer-by-Layer Films Based on Thermal-induced Wrinkling of Polymer-Polymer Bilayer System |

Since Layer-by-Layer (LbL) films have attracted much attention with the growing interest in various fields of technology, understanding the physical or mechanical properties of those films and its control are intensively investigated because the properties of polymeric thin films are distinct from their bulk properties. Wrinkling-based measurement is simple and versatile technique in determining the mechanical properties of nano composite multilayered thin films. In this study, we explored the thermomechanical properties of LbL films based on polymer-polymer bilayer wrinkling via thermally induced instability. It was investigated to predict the Young's modulus of polyelectrolyte multilayer via dipping based and spin-assisted LbL by measuring the wrinkling wavelength that grew with time. The wavelength and amplitude characteristics of wrinkled surface on polyelectrolyte multilayers can be controlled by deposition method and the degree of ionization of the polyelectrolyte pairs. |
