Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue on nano-sized TiO2 in water under visible light irradiation |

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrolysis using an economic inorganic compound TiCl4 in a mixed solvent of n-proanol and water. Degradation of the most part of organic dyes needs still under UV irradiation except some dyes. However, the amount of UV in solar light reaching the surface of the earth is less than 5%. To enhance the activity of photoefficiency, activation in the visible light region is required. Among various dyes, methylene blue is known mostly difficult to be degraded under visible light and is often used as a model dye contaminant to evaluate the activity of a photocatalyst. Visible light-induced photocatalytic degradation of MB has been investigated in TiO2 aqueous heterogeneous dispersions. A comparison of the photocatalytic property of the prepared TiO2 with that of commercial TiO2 (P-25, ST-01, ST-21, ST-31) is presented under similar conditions. |
