Graphene oxide (GO) has been emerged as a new material that have excellent physical properties and rich in functional groups to utilize for heterogeneous catalysts. In this sense, as a new catalyst concept, called “cabocatalysis”, is issued as a mild and efficient carbon catalyst for organic synthesis. Here, we demonstrate for the first time, transition-metal-free Friedel-Craft alkylation using acidic GO without any carbocation rearrangement and multi alkylation products. Compared to the conventional solid acids, GO showed much better catalytic performance than others. |
