Properties of the Polycarbonate/Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes composite affected by Sonication Process |

Morphological, rheological and electrical properties of the polycarbonate (PC)/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) composites were studied. PC/MWNT composites were prepared by solution mixing in tetrahydrofuran (THF) under sonication process. Horn and bath type sonication was applied in order to improve the dispersion of the MWNT in THF in advance of mixing process. In this study, the effect of sonication on the properties of the PC/MWNT composites was observed by four-probe method and ARES, TEM and SEM. From the results of the morphological properties of the MWNT and PC/MWNT composites, horn type treated MWNT and PC/MWNT composites using the horn type was shown to disentangled structure compared to bath type treated MWNT and PC/MWNT composites using the bath type. From the results of electrical and rheological properties, electrical conductivity and complex viscosity of the PC/MWNT composites using the horn type increase more than those of the bath type. |
