Self Assembled Amphiphilic Polyhedral Oligosilsesquioxane grafted Poly(vinyl alcohol) Nanoparticles |

Biocompatible and biodegradable polymers are becoming of great center of focus in biotech research industries, but they need to be modified such so that they can be used as vehicle in drug delivery system. For example Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) backbones can be modified as such so they can be used in packing of sensitive drugs, proteins, peptides and DNA.1 Polyhedral oligosilsesquioxane (POSS) do possess applications like cytocompatibility, antithrombogenic nature.2 Having obvious reasons of POSS and PVA as biomaterials we intended to synthesize POSS-grafted-PVA nanoparticles and paclitaxel as model drug. The synthesis of POSS-g-PVA was characterized by 1HNMR and FT-IR. Hydrodynamic diameter and electrophoretic light scattering of nanoparticles revealed they have average diameter of 215 nm and negative zeta (ζ)-potential. Structure morphology were analysed by AFM and TEM. Drug release experiments by UV-Vis spectrophotometer showed continuous release pattern for 40 days. |
