제목 Photothermal Effects of Liposomes Containing Melanin on NIR Laser Irradiation
초록 Melanin is an effective absorber of light to near infrared (NIR) regions. It is, however, insoluble in water and so the ranges to be used are limited. Here, we prepared the melanin-loaded liposomes (melasomes) for biomedical applications and evaluated photothermal effects in vivo and in vitro. The melasomes were spherical vesicles of 160 nm in diameter. After irradiation from 808 nm NIR laser at 1.5 W/cm2, the melasomes showed a good photothermal conversion efficiency in vivo and in vitro. The temperature of the melasome solution increased to 48.6 ℃  within 7 min under the same irradiation condition. At 4 h post-injection of the melasome solution through the tail vein, the temperature of the tumors of mice bearing CT26 reached 50.8 ℃ within 3 min under the irradiation. The tumors treated with laser irradiation showed slower growth significantly. We anticipate that melasome solution could become an attractive photothermal therapeutic agent for cancer therapy.
