제목 Preparation of Melanin-Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) Nanoparticles and Their Photothermal Effects by a NIR Laser
초록 In this study, melanin was conjugated with polyethylene glycol (PEG) to increase its availability in biomedical applications. Melanin-PEG conjugate (MPC) was self-assembled in water into spherical nanoparticles. The mean size of the MPC nanoparticles was 237.8 nm. To evaluate the photothermal properties, MPC nanoparticles were exposed to an 808 nm near infrared laser with a power density of 1.5W/cm2. The temperature of MPC nanoparticle solution increased by 86 °C  at 5 mg/mL after irradiation for 3 min. To investigate in vivo photothermal effect MPC nanoparticles was injected into the thigh muscle of a mouse and exposed to the same laser condition. The temperature of the site increased significantly by 65.4 °C within 3 min. The MPC nanoparticles can efficiently convert near infrared (NIR) light into heat, which makes it suitable for a photothermal therapeutic agent (PTA). Thus, we believe that MPC nanoparticles have ability as a PTA for NIR laser-induced photothermal cancer therapy.
