Porous crosslinked PS bead have been widely used in various areas, such as standard particles for calibrating instruments, ion exchange resins, carrier particles for chromatography column. and so on. it can be also applied as absorbents or cathode materials after modification into carbonized porous active carbon. In order to synthesis the crosslinked PS bead, DVB was uesd as crosslinking agent during suspension polymerization. Toluene and others were used as diluent in order to make micro- and meso-pores. The morphology of bead according to the content of diluent was observed with VM (Video Microscopy) and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). B.E.T (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) Measurement Equipment was also used to analyze the pore size, its distribution, and surface area. Thermal stability and morphology after carbonization were examined with TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) and carbonization experiments. |
