제목 Application of hyper branched structure in a side chain polyimide for second order NLO property
초록 The hyper branched structure of chromophore has evidently improved second order NLO property of a side chain polymer. It is undoubtedly due to increased chromophore density and partially due to local ordering of each chromophores. However, the large quantity of chromophore in a polymer causes a solubility problem occurred during synthetic procedure as well as thin film formation and thus limits using various chromophores. Strong electron withdrawing group such as nitro group tends to generate the solubility problem in a high concentration. DR1 and DANS failed to prepare optical quality films with high loading side-chain polymers.
Previously, chromophore AIDC granted loading density to more than 70% without the solubility problem. Many alkyl substituents in chromophore molecule is desirable by improving the solvent solubility and by reducing dipole-dipole aggregation in a high chromophore concentration. We tried to expand the reasonable concept of the hyper branched structure with isophorone and thiobarbituric acid as chromophore segments. The better electron withdrawing ability of thiobarbituric acid compared to malonitrile of AIDC and attached two alkyl groups are expected to reveal the hyper branching effect to increase the optical nonlinearity.
