NBR (acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber)has great industrial potential due to its moderate cost, excellent resistance to oils, fuels, greases, and easy processability. However, NBR has a lower heat resistance than other synthetic rubber. In this study, electron beam irradiations on a mixture of NBR and curing agent, trimethylopropane trimethacrylate were carried out from 20 to 200 kGy. The gel content, durability, and thermal properties of irradiated NBR were characterized using a soxhlet apparatus, swelling index, DSC, and TGA, respectively. Consequently, the heat resistance and aromatic compound resistance were enhanced through electron beam irrdiation. |
