Synthesis and Characterization of Polyamic acids Containing Cyclopentadecanyl Moiety for Liquid Crystal Alignment Layer |

We had synthesized of novel polyamic acids containing rigid alicyclic side group like cyclopentadecanyl moiety for liquid crystal alignment layer with high pretilt angle. The structures of newly synthesized monomers and polyimides were characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR spectroscopy as well as elemental analysis. In this study, we had investigated properties of resulting polyimide such as thermal stability, transparency as well as mechanical properties. Further, we have studied electro-optic properties of liquid crystal display device fabricated using this polyimide and then compared them with those of conventional liquid crystal alignment layer with flexible aliphatic side chain.
