제목 Effect of nano clay as compatibilizer in Nylon 6/EPR incompatible polymer blend
초록 The effect of nano clay on morphologies of an immiscible blend consisting of of nylon 6 (N6) and poly(ethylene-ran-propylene rubber) (EPR), prepared by melt blending, has been studied. For 80/20 N6/EPR blend, the average dispersed domain diameter (D) of EPR in N6 matrix decreases significantly by introducing a small amount of the clay. Furthermore, even at annealing at high temperatures, the D of the blend containing clay does not change. This suggests that the clay acts as an effective compatibilizer. But, for 20/80 N6/EPR blend, the D of N6 in EPR matrix decreases only at higher amount of the clay. Also, with annealing at higher temperature, the morphologies of 20/80 blends are not stable; thus the coalescence of dispersed domains occurred. The results indicate that the presence of exfoliated clay platelets only in the matrix phase, can act as effective compatibilizer by preventing the coalescence of the dispersed domains.
