One of the primary industrial processes for forming both small and large, thin walled plastic parts is blow molding. In the blow molding process, the performance of the produced bottle (wall thickness distribution, mechanical properties . .) is determined both by the material properties and the operating conditions. In the present work, an isothermal axisymmetric blow molding simulation of generalized Newtonian fluid and viscoelastic fluid using Polyflow is presented. For viscoelastic fluid, a characteristic time must be specified in addition to the shear viscosity, and which may lead, in particular, to a high extensional viscosity. The technique involves an automatic remeshing technique for handling large mesh deformation, as well as a specific algorithm for detecting the contact of the fluid with the wall of the mold. Different inflation times between generalized Newtonian case and viscoelastic case, thickness distribution change at various times and thickness distribution at the end of process with different constitutive models will be discussed.
