Gold nanomaterials that absorb light in near-infrared (NIR) region could be used for simultaneous molecular imaging and photothermal cancer therapy. For effective cancer cell imaging and photothermal therapy, we first prepared gold nanorods (GNRs) with a suitable aspect ratio to have selective absorption in NIR region. Then, pluronic-based, temperature-sensitive nano-carriers were employed as GNR carriers. Gold nanorods (GNRs) were easily loaded into the nano-carriers based on thermo-sensitive properties by incubating simply at 4 °C with high loading capacity and efficiency. GNR-loaded nano-carriers were much more efficient and selective for cancer cell uptake and damaging by laser compared to bare GNRs. Acknowledgement.
