Near-infrared (nIR) fluorescence emitted from single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) has more advantages such as non-photobleaching and higher tissue transparency as it is applied to biological and medical fields than the fluorescence from organic fluorophores. In this talk, the modulation of nIR fluorescence of SWNT by synthetic polymers or proteins for optical detection of biological molecules, in particular, reactive oxygen and nitrogen species will be presented. The novel optical sensors based on SWNT fluorescence enable us to decipher the biological role of target molecules of interest. |
