Chemically and Electrically Tunable Block Copolymer Photonic Gels: Exceptionally Large Tunability via Uniaxial Swelling |
초록 |
Block copolymers are periodic materials that offer advantages as chemically and electrically tunable PBG materials. We employ a polystyrene-b-poly(2-vinyl pyridine) (PS-b-P2VP) block copolymer where the P2VP blocks are chemically quaternized (QP2VP) and crosslinked after formation of a 1D periodic hydrophobic-hydrophilic lamellar structure. This multilayer structure provides for swelling of the QP2VP gel layers. The glassy PS layers require the photonic gels to only expand uniaxially normal to the layers, which gives extremely large tunability from the ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS) to the near-infrared (NIR) region with up to 5th order PBG peaks observed during osmotic induced swelling. Applied electric fields (0~3 V/μm) cause electrophoretic transport of the counterions and induce strong stretching of the end-anchored QP2VP blocks due to electrostatic repulsion. |
