Phase-field modeling of multiply-twinned nanoparticles |

FCC metal nanomaterials are of great interest in many fields. They have many structural variants especially in solution process where surfactants may alter surface energy, which means that the magnitudes of surface energies are not in the order of what the broken bond model predicts. In this research, we present a phase-field model to study the behavior of the multiply-twinned nanoparticles. We put a special emphasis on the penta-twinned structure having five fold symmetry observed in decahedral nanoparticle and nanowire which are usually observed in the same batch of the polyol process. Our model can be used for unveiling the formation mechanism of them that is still under debate. |
