제목 Investigation of Mutiple Melting Behavior on Annealing of PEN Fibers Reinforced with Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Polymer (TLCP)
초록 Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Polymers (TLCPs) that are a class of the materials producing anisotropic melts of relatively low viscosity have been used for high performance engineering plastics due to their high mechanical properties and excellent thermal stability. Form the reason, melt blending of TLCPs with conventional thermoplastics has attracted great attention because of the improvement of the strength and modulus of polymer composites.1-3 Exspecially chain orientation can be developed with the spinning speed, and so TLCPs can be developed into highly ordered structures with self-reinforcing characteristics.4-5 These characteristics make it possible for TLCPs to be used in high-performance fibers with conventional melt spinning. Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Polymers (TLCP) / poly (ethylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PEN) blends were prepared by melt blending, and were melt spun into fibers at various spinning speeds in an effort to improve fiber performance and processability. Some analyses were performed to investigate the properties of them.

In the case of annealed polymers, the structural behaviors are altered by the accumulation of various structural processes, such as disorientation, recrystallization by nucleation and growth, shrinkage, and crystal decomposition; these changes are natural responses to the temperature and time during annealing.6-8 Therefore, in order to investigate the effects of annealing on structure and properties of reinforced fibers, those were annealed at various temperatures and for different time periods. The structure and properties of annealed fibers were also analyzed. And double melting peaks were observed in the differential scanning calorymetry (DSC) thermograms of the annealed fibers.
