제목 | Effect of Drawing and Annealing Process on the PEN Fibers Reinforced with Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Polymer (TLCP) |
초록 | Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Polymers (TLCPs) that are a class of the materials producing anisotropic melts of relatively low viscosity have been used for high performance engineering plastics due to their high mechanical properties and excellent thermal stability. Form the reason, melt blending of TLCPs with conventional thermoplastics has attracted great attention because of the improvement of the strength and modulus of polymer composites.1-3 Exspecially chain orientation can be developed with the spinning speed, and so TLCPs can be developed into highly ordered structures with self-reinforcing characteristics.4-5 These characteristics make it possible for TLCPs to be used in high-performance fibers with conventional melt spinning. To investigate applicable ability of PEN for the high performance fiber such as a tire code, poly (ethylene 2, 6-naphthalate) (PEN) fibers reinforced with thermotropic liquid crystal polymer (TLCP) were prepared by a process of melt blending and spinning. In general, it is well known that the fiber handling process after spinning significantly affects the final properties of fibers. Therefore, to improve the mechanical properties of reinforced fibers, the CO2 laser drawing process was applied in the reinforced fibers with the heat/CO2 laser drawing machine that was constructed by our laboratory. And some fiber handing processes after spinning were also applied to compare the mechanical properties of laser drawn reinforced fibers with those of handed fibers. Some analyses were performed to investigate of them. It is expected generally that the CO2 drawing process is more effective drawing process than the heat laser drawing process. However, the heat drawing process was more effective than the CO2 drawing process in this research. On the other hand, the CO2 laser drawing including preheating before the CO2 laser heating was more effective than above two things. References 1. M. Amano and K.
