제목 Superabsorbent polymer with improved absorbency under load via tunable surface-crosslinking
초록 Surface-crosslinking was introduced to improve the absorbency under load of itaconic acid-based superabsorbent polymer (SAP). Surface-crosslinking improves the gel strength of SAP by forming a hard shell structure on the core-SAP particles. The solvent types, the crosslinker content, and the reaction temperature in the surface-crosslinking process are important parameters. Various parameters were adjusted to derive the optimal surface-crosslinking conditions. The structure of surface-crosslinked SAP was characterized through FT-IR analysis. The absorption performances of SAP were measured by centrifuge retention capacity and absorbency under load. As a result, water-acetone mixture of 15:85 ratio, a surface-crosslinker of 1.5 wt%, and a reaction temperature of 140°C proved to be the optimum surface-crosslinking conditions.
