A nickel based porous metal organic framework for the synthesis of cyclic carbonates from epoxides and CO2 |
초록 |
The cycloaddition of CO2 with epoxides is a greener and commercial way of five membered cyclic carbonate syntheses and it aids as a carbon capture and utilization technique. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of crystalline compounds constructed from organic linkers that bridge metal atoms or clusters. Nickel is one of the less explored elements for its catalytic activity towards the cycloaddition of CO2 with epoxides to yield five membered cyclic carbonates. In this work, we examined the potentials of Ni2(BDC)2(DABCO) as catalyst for CO2-epoxide cycloaddition. Ni2(BDC)2(DABCO) was synthesized by solvothermal method and characterized by using various techniques such as XRD, FTIR, SEM, TGA, BET surface area and XPS analysis. The cycloaddition reactions were performed under different reaction conditions with and without the help of co-catalysts. Ni2(BDC)2(DABCO) was able to catalyze the cycloaddition reactions under mild reaction conditions with high selectivity and yield to the desired cyclic carbonate product. Recyclability studies were carried out to prove the heterogeneous nature of the catalyst and a plausible reaction mechanism was proposed. |
