Effect of Fe3O4 Nanoparticle Orientation on the Magnetic Properties of Polymer Composite Thin Films |

We investigated the effect of Fe3O4 nanoparticle (NP) orientation on magnetic properties of polymer nanocomposite thin films. In order to obtain the NP-oriented composite multilayer, we applied Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique and performed the alternative deposition of spin-coated PMMA thin films and closely packed NP monolayers. Neutron reflectivity experiments were conducted to investigate the structure along film depth of the polymer-Fe3O4 NP multilayer. From the magnetic property results of the polymer nanocomposite thin film using SQUID, we can conclude that dipole-dipole interaction between NPs was significantly affected by particle orientation. Without the particle orientation, for example, spin-coated polymer-Fe3O4 NP composite thin films with homogeneous particle distribution, zero remanent magnetization and coercivity were exhibited due to isolation of the NPs and the reduction of the interparticle interactions. |
