The new extrusion process using ultrasound was employed to enhance nano-scale dispersion during melt sonication of polymer and organically modified clay. The nanocomposites of various concentrations were prepared by ultrasonically assisted melt compounding process. The materials were studied commercial polymer reinforced with organo-modified montmorillonite. The ultrasonic process had an effect on enhanced breakup of layered silicates and better compatibility of phase morphology compared with general extrusion. Also, it was effective that regulated the degradation in polymer mixture, intercalation and exfoliation of nanocomposites with the absence of any chemical compaterbilizer. The effectiveness of the proposed ultrasonic-extrusion technique was evaluated by XRD, TEM, rheological analysis and thermal properties. |
