Ferrogels typically consist of polymeric hydrogels and iron oxide nanoparticles, which have been widely utilized in many drug delivery and tissue engineering applications due to on-demand release of payloads from the gels under the external magnetic stimulation. Since self-healing hydrogels are promising as an injectable system, introducing self-healing feature to ferrogels could extend their applications. However, few has been reported to date regarding self-healing ferrogels. We report here preparation and characterization of self-healing ferrogels fabricated from oxidized hyaluronate and glycol chitosan. Glycol chitosan was pre-mixed with iron oxide nanoparticles, followed by mixing with oxidized sodium hyaluronate. A gel disk was prepared and cut into several pieces, and an external magnet field was applied to the gel pieces in DPBS. After 10min, the gel pieces formed a complete disk. These ferrogels may find useful applications, including drug delivery and tissue engineering. |
