Ionic Polymer-Metal Composite (IPMC) consist of ion exchange membrane and two metal electrodes. Its light weight and large displacement in low voltage enables industrial application and biomedical research such as micro actuator and mechanical bending sensor. IPMC can be used as actuator in presence of electric field, and as bending motion sensor when mechanical deformation is applied. Due to its small and simple structure, IPMC actuator and sensor can be easily combined into one body structure, which is useful for motion sensing system. In this research, we designed IPMC actuator-sensor combined structures and applied them into exoskeletal system. Also we verified its electrochemical properties and confirmed compatible interaction between IPMC actuator and sensor. |
