For the selective methane oxidation, the utilization of abundant and inexpensive O2 as an oxidant is a critical issue. Co(NO3)2, CoCl2, and Co(TFA)2 are the representative catalyst systems for the homogeneous methane oxidation using O2 in trifluoroacetic acid solvent. However, it was reported that these catalyst systems caused a severe reactor corrosion and degraded to CoF2. In this study, we introduced a new cobalt-based catalyst system CoCl4(Me4N)2 which not only increase catalytic performance, but also reduce the harmful impact on the experimental equipment. The reaction condition was optimized to obtain the highest MeTFA yield. Furthermore, after the reaction, the catalyst was isolated and analyzed using XRD, CHN, XPS, and FT-IR to estimate the active catalyst form. |
