Molecular ordering enhancement in semiconducting polymer assisted by crystals of conjugated organic molecules |

Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) based on solution processable semiconducting polymers have received much attention for applications in printed organic electronics. In recent years, electrical performance in polymer semiconductors has improved owing to synthesis of novel materials and processing techniques. In particular, the field-effect mobility is sensitively influenced by the molecular arrangement and crystallinity in thin semiconducting film. Here we investigate the packing structure of blending electron-transporting polymer and small molecules. The blends of polymer and small molecules order in a cofacial arrangement where charge transfer is highly efficient in the solid state. These structural changes, as a function of blend composition, suggest a model for the microstructure where the location of the small organic species are incorporated rather than randomly dispersed. |
