The introduction of PEDOT:PSS as a standard hole transport layer has made a great contribution to increase the efficiency in early study on organic solar cells. However, since PEDOT:PSS also has a metallic property, it still has a possibility to form a barrier by metal-semiconductor contact at the interface between PEDOT:PSS and photoactive layer. In this study, we tried to remove this metal-semiconductor contact barrier by modifying PEDOT:PSS surface using hydroquinone(HQ). The introduction of HQ induced lowering of contact barrier and decrease in sheet resistance at the interface between PEDOT:PSS and active layer. As a results, the device fabricated with HQ between PEDOT:PSS and active layer shows 22% increase in the efficiency compared to device without HQ. Furthermore, the simplicity of HQ layer fabrication by solution processing suggests easy approach to effectively boost the performance of polymer solar cells. |
