The waste biomass of Corynebacterium glutamicum was evaluated as a biosorbent for removal of cationic dye Basic Blue 3 (BB 3) from aqueous solution. A series of experiments such as pH edge, precipitation of dye, isotherm and kinetics, were undertaken to assess the dye sorption. As the pH values increased, the uptake of BB 3 accordingly increased except pH 1 and 2. The effect of precipitation of BB 3 can be considered as an important factor in BB 3 biosorption study. Therefore, a new curve of pH edge considering precipitation was created, and the pH 9 was finally evaluated as the optimum pH for BB 3 biosorption. The Langmuir isotherm model was found to represent the measured sorption data very well. The maximum saturated sorption capacity of BB 3 was 63.33 mg/g at pH 9 which is higher comparing other results reported in literatures. The rate of biosorption of BB 3 was analyzed using pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models, and the kinetic data fitted well to pseudo-second-order kinetic model. |
