Electro-active electrode of Cobalt Oxide Nanorods by hydrothermal methods for Supercapacitor applications |

Well-crystalline cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanorods (NRs) were synthesized through facial hydrothermal method using cobalt nitrate (Co(NO3)2) and urea. The average diameter of 80-150 nm and average length of 3-5 µm of as-prepared Co3O4 NRs were confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). TEM analysis showed that each Co3O4 NRs were composed of the aggregated nanoparticles which possessed multicrystalline nature. The phase and composition were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, which showed the typical cubic Co3O4 nanostructures. The UV-Vis spectrum depicted the two absorption bands at 454 and 763 nm which represented the origin of two transition states from O2− → Co2+ and O2− → Co3+ charge transfer processes. It is believed that the synthesized Co3O4 NRs could be the promising materials for energy storage and charge transporting devices. |
