Potential for CO2 Storage in Pakistan with Enhanced Coal Bed Methane (ECBM) |
초록 |
Enhanced coal bed methane (ECBM) is an emerging technology which has much potential for the storage of CO2 with simultaneous production of methane. Thar Desert is present in South of Pakistan which has lignite coal reserves of 175.5 billion tons spread over area of 9000 km2. At a given pressure-temperature conditions, coal can adsorb higher amounts of CO2 than methane depending mainly on permeability of coal and coal seam, surface area and pore structure. These reserves are estimated to have as high as 380 billion cubic meters (BCM) of methane with CO2 storage potential of approximately 1800 Mton. This study investigates the initial suitability for sequestration of CO2 in Thar coal which indicates that Thar coal reserves have good CO2 storage potential. |
