Synthesis of cyclic carbonates using a nickel based metal organic framework catalyst assisted by ammonium halides |
초록 |
Among the various attempts to promote CO2 valorization using metal-organic framework (MOF) catalysts, the synthesis of cyclic carbonates have gained much attention. Cyclic carbonates are extensively used as important compounds with a wide range of applications such as polar aprotic solvents, electrolytes in Li ion batteries, and monomers for polymer synthesis. Nickel is one of the less explored elements for its catalytic activity towards the cycloaddition of CO2 with epoxides to yield five membered cyclic carbonates. Considering the wide range of clusters and complexes that can be formed with nickel nodes, a large number of metal organic frameworks with potential catalytic abilities could be synthesized. Therefore in this work we synthesized and evaluated the catalytic potential of one of the most renowned Ni-centered MOF, Ni2(BDC)2(DABCO), towards the CO2 fixation reaction. Ni2(BDC)2(DABCO) showed a promising catalytic performance under different reaction conditions with and without the help of co-catalysts. Recyclability studies were carried out to prove the heterogeneous nature of the catalyst and a plausible reaction mechanism was proposed. |
