Multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) reinforced thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer (TLCP) nanocomposites were prepared by a melt compounding process and the effect of MWCNT on the thermal stability, rheological and mechanical properties of TLCP nanocomposites were investigated. There are not great improvements of mechanical properties of TLCP/MWCNT nanocomposites due to the agglomeration of MWCNT. However, the thermal stability parameters, such as Ti, Tdm, and IPDT, were increased with increasing MWCNT contents, indicating that incorporation of small quantity of the MWCNT into the TLCP matrix enhanced the thermal stability of TLCP/MWCNT nanocomposites. The rheological behavior of TLCP/MWCNT nanocomposites was significantly dependent on the MWCNT content. The complex viscosity and storage modulus of TLCP/MWCNT nanocomposites increased with increasing MWCNT, resulting from physical interactions such as the nanotube-polymer matrix interactions and the nanotube-nanotube interactions. |
