Carbon fillers having anionic or cationic groups were prepared with graphene oxide(GO) and oxidized CNT(O-CNT) obtained from graphite and commercialized multi-wall CNT by Hummer’s method and consecutive treatment with benzyl dimethyl hexadecyl ammonium chloride(BDHd) from GO and O-CNT, respectively. Anionic(A-WPU) and cationic(C-WPU) waterborne polyurethanes containing different amount of ionic group were also synthesized with isophorone diisocyanate(IPDI), poly(tetramethylene glycol)(PTMG) and dimethylol propionic acid(DMPA) as an anionomer or methylene diethanol amine(MDEA) as a cationomer, respectively. Then, polyurethane/carbon filler nanocomposites were made by blending the ionically functionalized carbon fillers into waterborne polyurethanes in assigned ratios. Comparing with the pristine WPU the mechanical and thermal properties of the composites were varied with type of the carbon filler and ionic group as well as the ratio of filler contents. |
