As one of the most important energy and carbon sources, homeostasis of glucose must be precisely regulated in our body, and an abnormal cellular glucose uptake level can be used as a marker for various disease such as cancer, Alzheimer’s and diabetes. To monitor glucose uptake in single cell level, fluorescence microscopic imaging is indispensable and, therefore, there are high demands for fluorescent bioprobes to monitor glucose uptake. To address this unmet needs, we developed new near-IR glucose bioprobe with silicon rhodamine fluorophore. We confirmed live primary hippocampal neurons uptake new Near-IR fluorescent glucose probe through GLUT (glucose transporter) system by D-glucose competition and GLUT inhibition with cytochalasin B. Therefore, we believe our new NIR fluorescent glucose bioprobe can help to study relationship between glucose uptake and neurodegenerative diseases. |
