We have systematically investigated the possible sensing features of several PDA derivatives in forms of aqueous solutions, bulk films, morphologically and optically patterned micro-images, host polymer-embedded electrospun fibers and jet-printed microarrays. At the next phase of our study, we aimed to reliably fabricate bulk and patterned PDA layers on solid substrates in order to harvest the optical, spectral and fluorogenic changes of PDAs in device-based sensor applications. In this study, we describe the results of the effort that lead us to develop a simple strategy to deposit PDA supramolecules on conductive layers using electrophoretic deposition. By this method, the diacetylene vesicles of different head groups, i.e. PCDA, PCDA-EDEA were both immobilized on plain conductive films and selectively deposited on pre-patterned templates. We also demonstrate that it is possible to transfer the deposited vesicular structures to flexible substrates by a rapid and effective method. |
