Facile Synthesis of Flower-like Nickel Hydroxide and Nickel Oxide Comprising Two-Dimensional Nanoplates as Efficient Oxygen Evolution Electrocatalysts |

A facile synthesis of microstructured nickel hydroxides (Fl-Ni(OH)2) with uniform flower-like shape is reported. Interestingly, Fl-Ni(OH)2 microstructures are composed of very thin two-dimensional nanoplates with the thickness of approximately 20 nm. The size of Fl-Ni(OH)2 can be readily tuned by varying the concentration of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) used. The resultant Fl-Ni(OH)2 are then thermally treated at controlled temperature to produce nickel oxides (Fl-NiO). Due to the unique morphologies, both Fl-Ni(OH)2 and Fl-NiO are employed as electrocatalyts for the oxygen evolution reaction. The electrochemical data indicate that the materials show competitive oxygen evolution electrocatalytic activities in 0.1 M KOH. |
