In this work, the sulfonated poly(ether sulfone) (SPES) was prepared using chlorosulfonic acid as a sulfonating agent. Blends were prepared from diglycidylether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) epoxy resins and SPES. The characterization of the curing process was analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The influence of SPES contents on the surface characteristics, thermal, and mechanical properties was also studied by sessile drop method, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), universal test machine (UTM), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). As a result, the surface free energy of the blends was increased by the addition of SPES. DSC measurements revealed that the curing reaction was delayed with the increase of SPES content. The fracture toughness of the blends was increased with the SPES content. The agreement could be observed by SEM which revealed phase separated morphology in the blends. |
