Synthesis of Highly Fluorinated Acrylate and Epoxy Monomer for Multimode Polymeric Waveguides |

Polymer optical waveguides have many advantages such as processibility and integration are more distinguished than inorganic materials. However polymer materials have a problem that is high optical loss(IR-vibrational absorption). The structure have to be designed to reduce the optical absorption loss. The objective of this study is to obtain low loss optical monomers that can be applied to UV-imprint for optical waveguides. Highly fluorinated monomers were synthesized that contained perfluoroaklyl and perfluorophenyl on acrylate and epoxide. Fluorinated epoxy monomers were synthesized starting by allylation of the corresponding fluorinated diols and subsequent epoxidation. The polymeric film was prepared by the photopolymerization of the mixture of various monomers. The refractive indexes of the polymers could be precisely controlled by the variation of monomers feed ratio, which was in the range of 1.3364~1.5111. |
