In this research, we applied layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly methods to improve general performances of current reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. Graphitic carbon material was functionalized by strong acid and diamines, so they got a change group on its surface. And these functionalized graphene sheets were deposited on surface of normal polyamide-based RO membrane by LbL method. With this modification, this type of membrane shows superior fouling resistance compared to pristine polyamide membrane. Also, these additional layers help membrane to slightly more resistive to chlorine degradation, which is significant problem to many polyamides. These excellences of performance were clarified by appropriate performance test and several analytical methods, such as FT-IR and scanning microscope. |
