제목 | Assessment of GHG reduction potential of carbon upcycling technologies |
초록 | Carbon capture and utilization (CCU) is the process of capturing carbon dioxide and the subsequent conversion of CO2 into products with higher values. Unfortunately, many CO2-based products have a higher Gibbs enthalpy of formation than CO2 and thus energy is required to chemically reduce the CO2. Therefore, proper methodology is required to account GHG emission of CCU technologies. Life cycle assessment (LCA) frequently used methodology for GHG emission reduction analysis of CCU technologies is discussed. The application of LCA for CCU technologies is challenging, and considerable methodological choices and pitfalls exist. Therefore, a new LCA framework for evaluating the GHG emission reduction and other environmental impacts of CCU technologies was introduced.
