The synthesis and application of semiconductor nanoparticles have been extensively investigated in various field such as photovoltaic, solar energy conversion, electrodevices, fuel cells catalyst, and bioimaging. Beside of their useful applications, there exists limited literature regarding the study of growth mechanism and parameters effecting the growth of semiconductor nanoparticles. In this study, an investigation was done by varying the reaction temperature and its effect on the size of PbS nanoparticle. The PbS nanoaprticles less than 1 nm were synthesized by altering the reaction conditions. The size of the subnanometer PbS nanoparticles were characterized using HRTEM and Medium Energy Ion Scattering Spectroscopy (MEIS). Based upon reaction conditions, a classical approach is proposed for the growth mechanism of ultrasmall PbS nanoparticles. |
