A battery slurry coated on a metal foil consists of active material, conductive additive, and binder. These particles form a microstructure of an electrode. Studies have shown that battery performance improves when creating electrodes with two different microstructures suitable for a separation film and a current collector for greater capacity and movement of lithium ions. Industrial efficiency can be taken by using two-layer slot coating which allows two coating processes to be performed at once. It is important to understand the phenomena between two fluids with different microstructures. In this study, a microchannel produced by polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) is used to imitate the flow of two-layer slot coating. Battery slurry is yield-stress and shear-thinning fluid, so Carbopol which has similar properties to slurry is chosen as model fluid. Carbopol is transparent so that flow inside the channel can be visualized and flow patterns in the two-layer slot coating can be predicted. |
