In this study, asymmetric electrochromic supercapacitors (ECSs) based on tungsten oxide (WO3) and nickel oxide (NiO) are proposed. In particular, the thickness of the NiO film was optimized in terms of the areal capacitance and device stability. The device performance could be further enhanced using copper (Cu)-doped NiO film by taking advantage of its higher conductivity. The optimal Cu concentration in NiO was determined to be ~7 mol%, at which the improved electrochromic and capacitive performance were observed compared to those of bare NiO film-based devices. Furthermore, the ECS including Cu-doped NiO exhibited excellent stability. For example, the device indicated stable charge/discharge cyclic operation, reliable operation at high temperature, and low self-discharging behavior, implying high practical feasibility. |
