Since there is an intense potential to convert solar light directly into chemical fuels, much research has been done on photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells for the generation of renewable energy. Bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) material has been reported to promising material because of its low band gap of 2.4 eV, and is a light absorber to adjust photodetector. In spite of having many advantages, this material has limitations including slow charge transport, substantial recombination of electron–hole pair. Recently, BiVO4 nanoparticles decorated zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires heterojunction has been demonstrated to increase electron conductivity. In this work, we fabricated BiVO4/ZnO nanowire core-shell heterostructure decorated with Au nanoparticles. The nanostructural morphology formation and plasmonic effect led to a photocurrent density of 1.83 mA/cm2 at 1.23 V RHE, which is higher three times than that of pristine BiVO4 film. The enhanced performance is attributed to the charge transport ability of ZnO nanowire and the plasmonic effects of Au nanoparticles. |
