Cellulose fibers are treated by fluorination in order to increase thermal stability of them. The properties of fluorinated cellulose fibers are analyzed by FT-IR, XPS and TGA. Integral procedure decomposition temperature (IPDT) and initial decomposition temperature (IDT) are calculated from TGA curves. A temperature rise in fluorination increases fluorine- functional groups on cellulose fibers. However, the introduced fluorine-functional groups are removed in the excessive conditions (fluorination treatment at 180 ℃). The IPDT of cellulose fibers is increased and IDT is decreased with increasing of fluorine-functional groups. In this study, the IPDT of cellulose fibers fluorinated at 120 ℃ is increased by 60.8% compared to that of pure cellulose fibers. |
